A tribute to a beloved prophet President Gorden B Hinckley

Last night my friend informed me that President Hinckely, the Prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has past away. I will miss his optimism, humor and sparkling testimony but I am happy that he now is again with his wife. As a little girl my dad took my brother and I to a missionary conference where President Hinckley spoke. I remember the anticipation that filled my soul. We arrived early and waited, when President Hinckley entered the room we all stood and sang with power "we thank thee oh God for a prophet," I remember the spirit testifying that he is a prophet of God. After the meeting President Hinckley and his wife stood at the door and greeted every person, we were at the end of a long line and to my surprise president Hinckley and his wife gave me a hug; I felt so important, the prophet made me feel like one of his own grandchildren. Ever since that experience I have cherished each opportunity to hear him speak. He may have gone on but his legacy will continue to live.

One of my favorite talks by President Hinckley is "The words of a prophet: Spirit of Optimism" here is a great quote from it:

Let us go forward in this glorious work. How exciting and wonderful it is. I do not know how anybody can feel gloomy for very long who is a member of this Church. Do you feel gloomy? Lift your eyes. Stand on your feet. Say a few words of appreciation and love to the Lord. Be positive. Think of what great things are occurring as the Lord brings to pass His eternal purposes. This is a day of prophecy fulfilled, … this great day in the history of this Church. This is the day which has been spoken of by those who have gone before us. Let us live worthy of our birthright. Keep the faith. Nurture your testimonies. Walk in righteousness, and the Lord will bless you and prosper you, and you will be a happy and wonderful people (from Ensign, Aug. 1996, 61).

I know that President Hinckley was a prophet of God, that he spoke with God and dedicated his life to building up the Lord's church here in the last days. How blessed I am to have been impacted by his great example of enduring to the end and the powerful spirit that accompanied his teachings. I will never forget this great man!
